Canada is set to open its first lithium-ion electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant in Windsor, Ontario, officials have announced, marking the single largest investment in the Canadian auto sector since at least the 1980s. The operation – tied to a roughly $5 billion joint-venture between auto giant Stellantis and South Korea's LG Energy Solution and backed by government incentives – is expected to create 2,500 jobs in the region and four to seven times that many in the supply chain. The plant, which is expected to open in 2025, aims to produce up to 45 gigawatt hours annually.
