I don't think a pipeline filled with crude would have been such a big issue as the Northern Gateway project is. It is the bitumen that everyone is concerned about.
I think most people that I talk to are in favor of Alberta refining their oil and shipping the finished product by rail. I guess they are thinking there will be a lot less volume for a lot more profit.
Another consideration is that if tankers are going to be putting the coast at risk, then why not just develop our own resources that are under the seabed right where the tankers will be travelling.
BC has one of the largest oil and gas reserves in North America but the federal government has a ban on developing them. The First Nations are also against it. .As they are the pipeline.
