This is the story you linked and it is about Chile -- like the new avatar (picture), Colbert fits you. LOL
Chile's recently appointed mining minister Santiago González said in a speech at the X Expomin International Congress 2008 in Santiago that one of his main goals will be to promote the growth of private sector mining in the country.
"We hope that private mining [in Chile] will grow larger every day," González said.
González said his ministry will facilitate the transfer of mineral rights from state-owned copper company Codelco to private miners.
Codelco, the world's largest copper producer and holder of the biggest reserve base, is also Chile's largest mining company.
The minister said other goals for the administration include establishing a system for the recently passed competent person act to classify mineral resources, designing a national geological database, the long awaited innovation of Codelco's corporate governance and the passing of a law to govern mine closure.
All are issues that were on the agenda of González's predecessor Karen Poniachik, whom he replaced early this year.
González said he expects a bill on mine closure to be sent to congress within "the coming months."
