Social projects are directly and indirectly connected to the environment. To the company, they are a necessary business expense that happen to look good.

Paved roads decrease runoff pollution, wastewater plants decrease human pollution, and the housing, hospitals and schools make the quality of life better. A better quality of life increases environmental awareness (theoretically), so the environment benefits. "Social Programs" are a significant part of mitigation measures.

Direct mitigation measures are reforestation of the impacted area. I would not be surprised if KRY is made to reforest another non-project area of similar size during project construction so the Ministry can get immediate satisfaction. This is how it is done, where I am, by business who knows how to play the game.

I know investors/speculators consider the environment as unimportant. To them, Development and Growth are the biggies. However, like it or not, saving the environment has become politically correct all over the world, and business must provide the direct and indirect mitigation measures or the development and growth will not happen.
