Why is the dollar so strong and gold so low?

1. The rest of the world is having problems, some countries including a lot of Europe are in worse case than the US

2. As oil went upt he dollar went down largely due to the US trade deficit. The much talked about $700 billion dollars spend on foreign crude will be significantly less at $65 a barrel.

3. This econmic situation is causing Americans to spend within their means and reduce borrowing even though the federal government is printing money likes it is going out of style.

4. The demand for consumer gold, jewelry etc. I would assume is way down.
