Venezuela Regional Election Peaking

Caracas, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) Regional Elections in Venezuela next November 23rd enter today their final stage, with the last calls to get out the vote from President Hugo Chavez followers and opposition parties.

In one of the few coincidences among the two groups, both sides are calling for supporters to participate in the voting.

With less participation than in a presidential election, campaigners have recognized the importance of the process, because for some the victory means the consolidation of the revolutionary government and for others defeating Chavez before 2012, when he finishes his current term.

In that matter, both government and opposition are jacking up their electoral propaganda, which will be effective until two days before the election.

The National Electoral College (CNE) continues and intensifies its distribution of voting material and instructions on how to vote for the 17 million Venezuelans convoked.

About 70 percent of the voting machines are already in place, which are protected by the Republic Plan, where 140 thousand military officials will be active.

Venezuelans are being called to choose 22 governors, 328 mayors, 233 members of legislative councils, 13 councils of Caracas Metropolitan Town hall and seven to the Metropolitan Town hall of Alto Apure.
