Categorical PSUV victory in regional elections

Caracas, Nov 24 ABN.- The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV, for Spanish) obtained a categorical victory in the regional elections carried out this Sunday in Venezuela, triumphing over 17 governments and the Libertador city hall, with 95.67% of the ballots.

The announcement was issued at 11.55pm (local time) by the president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), rector Tibisay Lucena.

The candidate of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela for the Libertador city hall, Jorge Rodriguez, won with 53.05%, while his closest contender, Stalin Gonzalez, obtained 41.92%.

For Mayor of the Gran Caracas was elected the opposition candidate Antonio Ledezma, with 52.45%; while the PSUV candidate, Aristobulo Isturiz, obtained 44.92%, which represents a difference of 7.53 percentage points.

Among the states in which the PSUV triumphed highlight: Anzoátegui, Apure, Aragua, Barinas, Bolívar, Cojedes, Delta Amacuro, Guárico, Falcón, Lara, Monagas, Portuguesa, Sucre, Vargas, Yaracuy, Mérida y Trujillo.

There is still missing the information about the states Tachira and Carabobo, since, as the National Electoral Council expressed, the results will only be made known when these ones are irrevocable.

The regional, municipal and metropolitan election boards will start issuing bulletins to announce the winners of the 326 remaining mayoralties, out of the 328 contended this Sunday, as well as the new deputies to the legislative councils and the Metropolitan city hall.

Meanwhile, the opposition candidates lost states that were under their administration: Guarico, Sucre, Aragua and Yaracuy, after the triumph of the PSUV candidates:

Guárico: Willian Lara 52.08%

Sucre: Enrique Maestre 56.08%

Aragua: Rafael Isea 58.56%

Yaracuy: Julio César León 57.46%

Lucena remarked that the participation on this electoral process rated 65.45%, a figure that represents the highest level of voters attendance in regional elections for the recent years.
