Miners are protesting in front of Miraflores
Saturday, December 13, 2008

During the afternoon of Friday, more than three hundred miners from the town Raúl Leoni is a bet on the outskirts of the Miraflores Palace in Caracas, to solicit a response regarding the cancellation of debts for the conversion of mining.

On several occasions, the miners have tried to establish a dialogue with various government institutions. However, no results have been obtained, so they decided to take more radical measures.

"We have not gotten the answers we wanted. We were going to give a solution through a press conference today in Miraflores, but we have all day here. First they told us that at 10:00 in the morning, then and now for 12:00 to 6:00 in the afternoon, but nothing has happened. We could not even eat, "said Alfredo Villanueva, representative of the group.

He specified that, despite the fact that many debts have been canceled, many miners are still waiting for that benefit.

"We are demanding immediate payment of 4 billion bolivars, but what we have done is go to Caracas to see if we pay attention. Yesterday we went to the National Assembly, and from there we went to the headquarters of Mibam (Ministry of Basic Industries and Mining) in Chuao, to the minister. We do not know what's going to happen with our payments, "he said.

The miners were attempting to meet this Thursday with the head of that ministry, Rodolfo Sanz, during the afternoon on Thursday. However, they could not achieve its purpose.

"The 322 miners who are here hope will give us a solution. Remained in giving us the solution through the press conference that they would offer in the Palacio de Miraflores, and we have not said anything yet. We want answers, "ratified.

Villanueva warned that in case of not having answers, "we will continue here at the corner of Boleros, for which the presidency of the republic we pay attention."
