Perry Calderwood interesting. This is a document from his appointment that states his mission.

I noticed this at one time was a confidential document but now is public and has some sections blocked out. I then found this about those blocked out areas. This was written Oct 8, 2008:

Canada's relationship, at least publicly, with Venezuela has been largely non-existent.

However, in the mandate letter, Mr. Calderwood is told that "Canada's presence in

Venezuela is increasingly important to our broader strategic interests."

Exactly what those "strategic interests" are is unclear, possibly because the relevant

sections are blacked out.
