Sentenced Sifontes mayor of the municipality of Bolivar to 7 years imprisonment


Caracas, 03 Dic. ABN .- Given the evidence adduced by the prosecution, the mayor of the municipality Sifontes (Tumeremo) of Bolivar State, Charles Chancellor, was sentenced to 7 years, 22 days and 12 hours of imprisonment, for committing offenses under the Criminal Code and the Law Against Corruption.

The Trial Court 8th Puerto Ordaz delivered the sentence for the generic embezzlement of public funds, illegal assembly, inciting panic, anxiety of the community and instigation to commit crimes
in closing public roads, following the indictment filed by prosecutors 8th national and 2 of the jurisdiction, Mery Gomez and Robert Mujica, respectively, along with itinerant character of the prosecutor, Gilberto Romero.

Additionally, the Court also issued an accessory penalty of disqualification Chancellor for policy for the duration of the sentence.

Similarly, William Alvarez were sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison, and Pedro Perez, two years in prison.

Alvarez was convicted of illegal assembly, inciting panic, anxiety of the community and instigation to commit crimes in the closure of public roads, and Perez, for the last offense set.

The investigation determined that workers were asked the Mayor's housing policy discounts, lockout and social insurance
through payroll, but these amounts were allocated for salaries of council members.

Also, a portion of the budget allocated by the National Executive in emergency spending was used to cancel allowances to elected officials for attending meetings not held.

The Chancellor trial began in 2000 after complaints of alleged irregularities during his tenure as mayor of that municipality in 1998.

Subsequently, in 2005, began another investigation
against Chancellor, to use a station on your property to encourage people to making streets, before the conflict between miners in the area and a company of the branch, referred to a note by the Public Ministry.

At that time, there were demonstrations with subsequent closure of roads leading to Santa Elena de Uairen action discontinued
road traffic and trade, among other activities, which generated anxiety in the community.

Then, the prosecution requested an arrest warrant for Chancellor and the others condemned, the latter were made right.

But it was in May 2006, when the condemned was presented today to 22 May, the 2nd Court of Puerto Ordaz Control issued precautionary measures, ruling prosecutors appealed the case.

In July 2006 the Court of Appeals Bolivar declared the application admissible, the Court annulled the decision and agreed to the deprivation.

On 15 February 2007, Chancellor was made right before the Public Ministry, in January 2009, held a preliminary hearing in which he ordered the trial, which ended Thursday 3 December.

The prosecution continues against Chancellor further investigation for alleged irregularities during his tenure as mayor in 1996-2000 and 2000-2004.

In that sense, the first of December was charged with abuse of power, embezzlement specific own corruption, fraud, embezzlement, payment for services not performed, overdrafts budget.
