Insecurity is the biggest fear of Venezuelans, according to polls. In Caracas, the average number of homicides over 100 murders per 100,000 inhabitants, while the global rate is about 8.8 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to NGOs.

The Venezuelan government does not provide overall figures on homicides for months.

Police "Bolivarian"
President Hugo Chávez swore Luis Ramón Fernández as director general of the National Police Corps Bolivarian; to Argenis Jesus Gonzalez Gonzalez as deputy director general Carlos Jose Martinez as vice president of Operations, Mary Eugenia Vivas as legal adviser to Miguel Angel Villegas as general secretary; to Saditsa Ruiz as director of Administrative Management and Torin Valmore as director of Land Transport Surveillance.

The event was attended by Minister of People's Power for Interior Relations and Justice, Tarek El Aissami, and the president of the National Assembly (AN), Cilia Flores and the Attorney General Luisa Ortega Diaz, among other officials.

Calm depositors
The President sent a message of calm to the citizens and ensured that all depositors get their money back.

"This is a responsible government. They are trying to turn reality, generating panic to harm the country, "criticized the president during a public event.
