Message: FACTBOX - Venezuela's bolivar currency devaluation

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday ordered soldiers to seek out businesses raising prices after a sharp devaluation of the bolivar currency last week, saying his government will not tolerate price speculation.

Proof that he has lost his mind. He's also threatened to take over businesses who raise prices in response to devaluation (in order to avoid selling product at a loss and going out of business) and give them to the poor. He is obviously desparate to "win" the next election. He'll win by hook or crook. Timewise I'd say (most optimistic case) we have at least a 2 year wait to get rid of him presuming it is widely acknowledged that the upcoming election results are fraudulant....and allowing time for a coup to be orchestrated against a backdrop of Marshall Law and accusations of foreign & domestic plots\encursions\conspiracies (pick your own rhetoric) by the United States, Columbia, The Dutch, The Canadians, The Rich, etc., etc., etc. Of course the KRY situation wouldn't be resolved immediately after the coup. There would be mass confusion, political disarray, and the usual delays associated with the endless stream of national holidays, general ineptitude, a new cast of posturing characters, corruption, etc. Anybody pinning their hopes on a change in fortune related to the overthrow of Chavez better plan on holding their breath for a very, very long time (presuming, of course, that we have financial backing waiting in the wings to see us thru the ordeal).
