CARACAS, Venezuela -- Venezuelan prosecutors have summoned the brother of an ex-government official with close ties to President Hugo Chavez for arraignment on banking-fraud charges.
Arne Chacon is the one-time president of Banco Real and the brother of former Science and Technology Minister Jesse Chacon. He faces charges of "fraudulent use of public funds" and "unauthorized approval of loans."
Arne Chacon was arrested in December for alleged involvement in a scandal that forced Chavez's administration to close seven private banks. Authorities allege widespread irregularities put the banks in financial trouble.
Prosecutors summoned Chacon for arraignment Thursday.
