General Mata Figueroa is the new Defense Minister

After the resignation of Vice-President and Minister of Defense Ramón Carrizález, General-in-Chief Carlos Mata Figueroa, formerly chief of the Operational Strategic Command, will be the new Defense Minister, military sources reported.

It was disclosed that Carrizález submitted his resignation last Saturday, as well as his wife, Minister of Environment Yubirí Ortega.

In order to face the wave of rumors, Carrizález said that for strictly personal reasons, he and his wife quit their positions.

He clarified that their decision was not due to any disagreement with the government decisions and any different version would be misleading and biased
