Electrical emergency decrees Chavez in Venezuela

08 of February 2010, 18:51 Caracas, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, today introduced the electrical emergency in the country, aiming to enhance the efforts to overcome the impact of the climatic phenomenon El Niño. During the first broadcast of the program of Radio Nacional de Venezuela "Suddenly with Chavez, the president announced the signing of Decree 7223, which contains the order of emergencies.

He also informed the creation of Staff Electric, integrated entity by Elias Jaua executive vice president and a group of ministers, including the Mining and Power Rodolfo Sanz and Ali Rodriguez respectively.

In his speech, the head of state argued the need for measures in response to the severe drought caused by El Niño.

The lack of rain reduced the water level in the Guri Dam, source from which it generates 70 percent of the electricity produced in this country.

Chavez also highlighted the international support to alleviate the current situation.

He particularly mentioned the exchange of local authorities Thursday with a delegation from Argentina, which proposed several thermoelectric generation projects and technology transfer.

Brazil, Cuba, China and Russia also help address the emergency.
