Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez appointed José Khan as the new Minister of Basic Industries and Mining. Khan is one of the directors of the Central Bank of Venezuela.
Khan, an economist with a past as trade union leader, is occupying temporarily the presidency of the state-owned Venezuelan Guayana's Corporation (CVG), according to a decree published in the Official Gazette, Reuters reported.
The new Minister of Basic Industries and Mining, who had previously held the Ministry of Mining between 2006 and 2008, replaces Rodolfo Sanz at a time when the basic industries face a labor and production crisis.
