On Wednesday, authorities of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and China signed in Caracas, the agreement for engineering, procurement and construction of the proposed container terminal works of Puerto Cabello, Carabobo state.

The Bolivarian Government was represented by Minister of Popular Power for Transport and Communications, Francisco Garces, and China, the General Manager of Harbour Engineering Company Limited, Huixian Yu.

The Chinese company is a publicly owned company specializing in infrastructure construction and port terminals in China and other nations of the world, Huixian Yu explained.

"Our company is responsible for about 95% of all design work and implementation of manufacturing port in China and we also have 31 branches in over 70 countries," he said.

Turn Huixian Yu said he is very pleased with the signing and execution of the container terminal in Puerto Cabello, which has highly trained personnel with sufficient technical expertise to the implementation thereof.

For his part, Minister of Transport and Communications, Francisco Garces, stressed the importance of carrying out the work, which is a work commitment, growth and strength to carry out together the two nations.

Garcés acknowledged the support of the Republic of China and said the global crisis that has affected the world economy has affected Latin American countries, yet despite this, Venezuela has promoted the development and renewal of infrastructure.

"We are developing a global strategy in the port areas of the country (...) it will help us improve the operations of national ports," he said.

The holder of Transportation and Communications said that implementation of this project, the Port may put up to 70 000 ships DWT (deadweight tons), and today only receive vessels of not more than 30 000 DWT.

Garcés Minister emphasized the work of the National Government, which daily contributes to the development of terrestrial, air, sea, underground and railway in the country.
