MOSCOW, October 15 (Itar-Tass) -- A total of 10 documents were signed on Friday on the results of talks between Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The two heads of state signed the Action Plan for the development of Russian-Venezuelan partnership for 2010-2014. The sides concluded, in particular, an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the development of the atomic power industry of Venezuela, construction and exploitation of a nuclear power plant in the country. Head of the RF State Nuclear Corporation Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko signed the document from the Russian side. A memorandum of understanding was signed by the RF Energy Ministry and Venezuelan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum on the support of the purchase by the TNK-BP company of British Petroleum assets in Venezuela. Rosneft and PDVSA (Petroleos de Venezuela) signed an agreement on the purchase of a 50-percent stake in the Ruhr Oel GmbH company (Germany). Avtovaz and the Venezuelan Corporation of Medium Industry signed an addendum to the protocol of intent and a roadmap. The Novoship (Novorossiisk Shipping Company) OJSC and PDV Marina signed an agreement on the establishment of a joint venture. The Inter RAO UES joint stock company and BARIVEN S.A. signed a contract on the supply of gas turbine units. The companies Servicios Venrus S.A. and PDVSA GAS S.A. signed an agreement on the optimisation of a gas compression unit on Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela. The companies also signed an agreement to design and build a deep extraction unit. Russia and Venezuela also signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation and mutual support in the customs sector. In November 2008, Venezuela and Russia discussed 46 potential cooperation agreements during an Intergovernmental Commission. Venezuelan Vice President Ramon Carrizales and RF Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin reviewed a series of initiatives that Chavez and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev would sign later in the month. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro added to aggressive foreign policy initiatives sought by Chavez in saying that “the unipolar world is collapsing and finishing in all aspects, and the alliance with Russia is part of that effort to build a multipolar world.” The two countries discussed the creation of a bi-national investment bank, the opening of a direct air route between Caracas and Moscow, the building of an aluminium plant, the construction of a gas platform off the Venezuelan coast, plans for automobile production, and Venezuela’s acquisition of Russian planes and ships. While the two countries also reached agreements on the development of outer space and the use of nuclear energy. Maduro added that the two countries “will develop all what has to do with technology and satellite in the space,” while still continuing to work at using nuclear energy with peaceful means to generate alternative energy. In September 2009, Russia approved a 2 billion US dollar loan to Venezuela. On September 10, 2009, Venezuela officially recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. |
