A suggestion about travelling in winter around the Great Lakes. The most difficult trip can be along the Southern coast of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. The Buffalo region is always the hardest hit by a lot of snow. This past week American motorists were stranded on the highway to Buffalo for 3 days. If you go via Detroit along the north shore of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario the snow issues are not so bad. The London iarea s a snow belt area though due to Huron Lake squalls from the north. But not that frequently. From Detroit to London is usually predictably good and from there to Toronto also.
Check "mapquest" for directions. It's about n 8 hr. trip
Take in a hocky game and visit the CNN Tower. Meals can be had at the tower and bring a camera.
Enjoy.
