During the inauguration of the National Assembly, the formula recommended by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) for the parliament board was approved.
The board was established as proposed by the government. Fernando Soto Rojas will be the chair; Aristóbulo Istúriz the first deputy chair and Blanca Eekhout, the second deputy chair.
Deputy Alfonso Marquina said that the number of congressmen for the opposition at the National Assembly, as well as the suggested board do not match with the majority of votes they got.
On Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m., the new National Assembly (AN) for the term 2011-2016 was inaugurated. The ceremony began with the National Anthem. Shortly after, the articles of the Rules of Procedure and Debate Regulations were read out.
The ceremony was aired by the official TV channel of the National Assembly. Other channels nationwide would take the signal because any media different from the official media were banned from entering the AN.
A special committee was appointed to check credentials of the new congresspersons, composed of Gladys Requena, Saúl Ortega, Julio Montoya, Julio Chávez and Edgar Zambrano.
