Chavez: Venezuela has substantial supplies of Coltan
President Chavez has announced that according to preliminary technical studies, Venezuela has important reserves of Coltan valued at around $100 billion. One of the advances last year, the President said, was the nationalization of basic industries and mining. Chavez commented that Coltan, known as “blue gold” is priced higher on the international markets than gold and diamonds. The mineral, Chavez continued, has been extracted illegally and smuggled to Colombia for more than a decade.
