CARACAS, Venezuela - A Venezuelan lawyer says a prominent union leader has been sentenced to seven years in prison in connection with a strike that temporarily paralyzed the state iron mining company.
Attorney Italo Atencio says Ruben Gonzalez was convicted of unlawful assembly, public incitement to commit crimes and violation of a government security zone during the strike at CVG Ferrominera Orinoco CA.
Atencio maintains his client is innocent and plans to appeal Monday's ruling.
