An arbitration panel holding a hearing on the merits is the "main trial."

In recent years, the issue of jurisdiction is being heard at the same time as the hearing on the merits to speed up the process. Venezuela tried to get the hearing date extended in a filing on October 11 2011 but that was denied by the panel.
