At the risk of sounding mean and gruesome, I will again say that I believe he is being kept "alive" inbody only, by scientific machinery, so that they can have a fresh corpse to present, when their plan, whatever it turns out to be, is ready to feed to the people.

Again, I feel sorry for his daughters and other family members, but........it's over.
