Pure speculation here, as we do not know the gritty details of the settlement....but is it possible that Fung & Co entered into the settlement knowing that VZ would likely breach the agreement right off the bat (given their slow pay in the GRZ case)?   Part of the settlement may include terms that if VZ breaches, then the consequences are XYZ.  If XYZ are terms that make it easier to collect, then it could be a good thing.  In other words, for instance, if the terms of the settlement say that if VZ breaches, then VZ consents to KRY going after CITGO (something VZ was heavily contesting), then it just made our collection efforts a little easier.  They may have used the settlement simply as a tool to knock out some of VZ's defenses (knowing that VZ would likely breach the settlement).  Admittedly pure speculation, but it might be a possibility.
