“lives in danger” is code for “we ran out of arguments, so fear mongering is our last resort”.

The “lives in danger” are supposed to be those of the Baker & Mckenzie lawyers carrying the bag for Crystallex in Venezuela. B&M supposedly conducted the negotiations with Venezuela on behalf of KRY because of the issue with dealing with government officials that are on the US sanctions list for corruption, drug trafficking and human right violations.

I guess KRY is afraid that something will happen to the B&M lawyers if their names are known. The “funny” thing is that, once they started talking to the government on behalf of KRY, the Venezuelan / Cuban intelligence gorillas surely put together a dossier and bugged their homes and offices to learn what was going on. If any of these people are killed, it will not be because of their work for KRY, but to rob them of their sudden riches ($30 million goes a long way in Vzla.) or at the hands of the people  (a lot of them, unfortunately, including the National Guard, the Police, the Intelligence forces, the military and, etc. etc.) that make crime their regular business, which is one of the few ways people can get rich quickly in Venezuela nowadays.

You can bet that within the $30 million payment to B&M there is “facilitating payment” money for the government and its “negotiators”. NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, gets done in Vzla. nowadays without “facilitating payments”.
