You inspired me to post after many years of lurking.  My story is similar to yours:

• first bought in 1998 ?
• went to AGM in Vancouver in 2000 and the next 3-4 in Toronto
• I posted a lot on the prior message boards, (perhaps under bkbruce?)
• made a lot of money selling 60% of my shares thanks to Kramer
• bought back a lot of those shares when the Chinese joint venture was "imminent".
• signed up with Gowling
• still own quite a few shares, but don't need much per share to get whole

I agree with Chaser.  There never will be an auction.  VZ holds out as long as they can and at the last moment settles rather than risking having a significant minority shareholder.  A way to screw everyone will be part of the settlement.
