Venezuela donates island from Citgo to the USA
There fuel was stored and now it is environmental reserve
The president of the Republic, Hugo Chavez, announced during the V Summit of the Americas the donation that will realise the Government of Venezuela of a located island in New Jersey, in front of the city of Philadelphia.
From 2004 Citgo, branch of Pdvsa has plans to donate the island to realise an environmental cleaning of the zone and to preserve the site like a refuge of wild life.
The Petty island has approximately 159 hectares of wild life, and is located in the Delaware river, next to the population of Camden (poorest of the USA).
At the moment, Citgo does not maintain operations in this island, only realises projects of environmental remediación, previously established in memorando of understanding signed with the Department of Environmental Protection of New Jersey.
To the donated being the island to the United States will become an ecological refuge, this thanks to the flora diversity and fauna, some in extinction danger, that they compose the territory.
Citgo got to use the island for fuel storage, and in her approximately 100 people worked.
The Petty island has been the most important subject within the political surroundings of the state of New Jersey during last the three years.
In fact, the present governor of the state, Jon Corzine, offered during his electoral campaign to turn the island into an ecological refuge, which will be obtained thanks to the donation that Venezuela has done, according to reviewed ABN.
Chávez emphasized that with this action the relations with the United States are being fortified.
