Uribe Third Term Rejected by Most Colombians, Survey Shows

By Alexander Cuadros

Feb. 5 (Bloomberg) -- A majority of Colombians say President Alvaro Uribe shouldn’t pursue a third term, according to a survey by Bogota-based pollster the National Consultancy Center.

Fifty-four percent of those polled said they were against Uribe participating in May elections, while 46 percent said they were in favor, according to the survey published today in El Espectador newspaper.

The Feb. 4 survey of 1,004 adults had a margin of error of 3 percentage points, according to a spokeswoman for the pollster.

A national court is evaluating a proposed constitutional referendum to allow presidents to serve three straight terms. Uribe, who took office in 2002, hasn’t said whether he wants to run again.
