Company Analysis:
Cypress Development Corp. is a Canadian gold and base metal exploration company developing projects in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada, and in Nevada, U.S. Its shares soared as much as 58% on August 1st on speculation that Goldcorp may acquire the company to strengthen its control over the Bruce Channel region in Red Lake. Drilling on the north boundary of the Bruce Channel discovery zone by Goldcorp has defined an "impressive gold deposit", and seeing the potential there, Goldcorp on July 31 announced acquisition of Gold Eagle Mines, which has been working on southwestern side.
Analyst Opinion:
It is very likely that Goldcorp will acquire Crypress as it is also exploring the area, on the southern boundary. Cypress has two projects strategically located in the heart of the Red Lake gold camp; the drilling results so far have not been impressive, though. Its Gunman project in Nevada has good exploration upside as it appears to be a high-grade zinc deposit. We are rating the stock as a speculative buy given the acquisition possibility.
