A Mississauga company that makes electric cars using lithium ion batteries is one of several "green" Ontario companies weighing the possibility of moving to New York state to take advantage of lucrative grants.

Electrovaya, which has its head offices on Royal Windsor Way in Mississauga, is one of three companies considering overtures from the New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA), according to a report by CBC News.

NYSERDA spokesperson Colleen Ryan said it looks for companies with cutting-edge transportation and renewable energy technologies to set up in New York.
"We offer a lot of incentives to help with that," she said.

Electrovaya, which already has a location in New York, recently delivered an SUV plug-in vehicle to NYSERDA.
It also has received an order for underwater vehicles for Kongsberg Maritime in Norway and recently signed a memo of understanding for an advanced hybrid-electric powertrain for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory.
