Premier Dalton McGuinty will be in Mississauga tomorrow afternoon to make an announcement that his staff says will bring more jobs to Mississauga.
McGuinty will be at Electrovaya on Royal Windsor Dr. at 3 p.m. to make the announcement. He'll be joined there by Minister of Labour Peter Fonseca from Mississauga East-Cooksville, Minister of Government Services Harinder Takhar from Mississauga-Erindale, Mississauga-South MPP Charles Sousa and Mississauga-Streetsville MPP Bob Delaney.
Electrovaya makes battery systems for hybrid and electric vehicles. Reuters reports that the company has signed three deals with Chinese manufacturers and also has agreements in place with India’s Tata Motors and Norway’s Miljo Innovasjon for highway-speed electric cars.
Recently, the Mississauga company teamed up with Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's most profitable oil company, to promote the use of cars that do not consume a drop of petroleum.
The low-speed, zero-emission cars are called the Maya-300. Electrovaya manufactures the lithium-ion battery packs that power the vehicles.
