Patents are not main concern, Evonik sold to Daimler to exit battery field, in the same way Dow exit Dow Kokam battery venture, Bosch dissolve JV with Samsung, Continental dissolve JV with SK Innovation and many others those last 2 years due to slow demand for EV's.
For Evonik Litarion and Separion were still at start-up stage but do not met promise and with Daimler giving up on battery production they gave up. LG and SK Innovation produce their own ceramic coated separator, LG even license them to Ube Maxell.

Daimler probably got Evonik share for low or no cost to let them write off activity.
Daimler, Nissan and most car maker realize now they have no cost advantage to produce cells and concentrate on producing pack.
That's a highly risky move for Electrovaya and they mention it in 4Q discussion.
A small cap is a small cap, beauty is that stock overeacted to good and bad news, this time shareholders hope a substantial up :-), if not too bad.
Just hope they will close deal, 1st PR Electrovaya was mentioning a combination of debt and grants, in 4Q discussion just debt based on asset value.
If deal is not closed in reasonable condition, share will crash (hope not).
