Miljøbil Grenland was founded in 1997 as a professional car fleet operator. The company has offered environmental-friendly vehicles to the Norwegian market and has delivered more than 300 electrical vehicles to customers. Miljøbil Grenland has worked out business concepts related to the use of environmental-friendly means of transportation, concepts that have given the company a profiled position within this segment throughout Europe. Miljøbil Grenland explores new zero emission technologies in the transport sector and is active in development and commercialisation of these concepts. A fully owned subsidiary, Miljø Innovasjon AS, was established in 2005 to take responsibility for the development and production of electric vehicles and battery systems for electric vehicles. To speed up the process Miljø Innovasjon has purchased a battery manufacturing license from Electrovaya in Mississauga, Canada. Electrovaya has developed a unique solvent-free battery manufacturing technology with significant improvements to the environmental footprint and the costs of the battery manufacturing process. Miljø Innovasjon/Miljøbil Grenland is now majority-owned by Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC) and is developing the battery system for the Indica Vista EV with TMETC. Miljø Innovasjon is currently in the process of setting up the manufacturing facilities to start high-volume vehicle conversion and battery manufacturing for the Indica Vista EV.
