Gov't may help protect Hungary's MOL from takeover, CEO says

It is not particularly important whether MOL stocks are in Austrian or Russian hands, CEO György Mosonyi of the Hungarian oil and gas company said in an interview with Hungarian business station Gazdasági Rádió. “OMV had better stay out of the whole adventure," Mosonyi added.
In the CEO's view, the OMV concept to create a Central European monopoly was bound to fail from the very start. Mosonyi said if necessary the Hungarian government is in a position to help protect the company from a hostile takeover, state ownership is not a prerequisite for safeguarding the nation's strategic assets.
Mosonyi believes MOL's success may be the explanation for its high appeal to investors. The company is currently among the most efficient in Europe, both in the downstream and upstream divisions.
