Here is an article I was trying to find a while back. It explains how operators were able to get production from the Bakken formation (Saskatchewan/N. Dakota) in areas where the wells would typically water out after stimulation.
There are a number of systems like this available now from different service companies, and HPHT packers are becoming available as well (15K psi @ 400F).

I think for the MAKO to be economical, this type of technology is going to be required (horizontal drilling, openhole completion, multi-zone fracing [8,12,20+ zones]).
