Would FO be venturing into South Africa if they were in financial Dire Straights - as many seem to think they are? It seems they have other promising opportunities on the go that will need working capital. A company that thought they were in financial hardship wouldn't spread themselves even thinner would they? Or maybe they might - I don't know.
Another thing, Everyone assumes because we have not heard anything re Exxon/Mako that it must be bad news and the end of Exxon's exploration in the Mako. It very well may be. It also may be that FO was in the bad books with the partners after the previous early NR and that there will not be any releases until all parties agree. Exxon is not known for being overly free with operations info.
Still hanging onto the dream...for now!
