Message: John Gustavson comments on the Mako Project

....the Foldeak-1 frac's were not what you would expect from a world-scale operator...

Joe Gus sounds dissapointed at the poor results from F1. Although any company would have difficulty transferring Rocky Mountain technology to an active geothermal area, he sounds like he actually expected better from Exxon. Of course Exxon is not some robotic entity that goes from place to place doing a perfect job everytime.

The Exxon we have operating the Mako joint venture is actually people, specifically a project manager who is using some in-house staff and various hired hands and contractors. The project manager must take responsibility for the field decisions, like where to frac and how to frac, and when to frac, and for the correct application of the technological know-how using their in-house previous experience and technology.

The options are: 1) The poor results in the fraccing results can be due to difficult field circumstances and no one could ever have done better. 2) the poor results in the fraccing can be due to bad decisions by the project manager and other technical staff under that individual, or 3) a combination of both.

To be dissapointed in Exxon is to be dissapointed in the technical manager running the project. My hope is that during the next few weeks, when Exxon reviews the results and formulates recommendations for phase 2, they will see fit to make changes to the project management.
