VIENNA, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Austrian energy giant OMV announced Tuesday that it encountered "promising" gas discoveries in its exploration block in southern Tunisia.
OMV announced it encountered a total of 102 feet of net gas and condensate pay at several of its reservoirs within the Jenein Sud exploration block in southern Tunisia.
"This promising series of discoveries in our Jenein Sud exploration block supports our efforts to grow in Tunisia, an important country in our North African core region," said OMV Executive Board Member Helmut Langanger.
A test zone achieved a gas flow rate of 2,700 barrels of oil equivalent and 400 barrels of condensate. "The total flow potential and condensate yield of this well is significantly higher," the Austrian company said.
The recent discovery is the fifth for the area in four years.
OMV said further explorations and appraisal activity was ongoing.
In 2007,when Falcon was looking for partners ,I met some people from OMV and tried to start a discussion about oil and gasfields. It didn`t take me long Falcon to come for discussion.
I expressed my anger why they never cared about the MAKO Trough , being so close to the market in the heart of Europe and why they keep hanging on in far away fields like Persia or Tunisia.
Mybe the upper announcement of late, explains why.
Flowrates like 20 MMcfpd are much more interesting, even if they have to ship it up the Mediterean Sea to the Gulf of Tieste and inject it to the Adriatic pipeline ending up in Schwechat in their own refinery.
Maybe one day XTO/EXXON/FO will be able to announce some news of the same kind !??
