In Florida, Biofuels Digest announced that it has added BioAmber, Metabolix, Neste Oil, Total, Global Clean Energy, Sacom, BASF, and Eni to the Biofuels Digest Index. The overall Index now stands at 36 companies with the new additions.
Minnesota-based renewable chemicals developer BioAmber and Italian green biotech pioneer have been added following their public listings. BioAmber completed an IPO this week and will list on the NYSE, while Sacom completed its listing last month and is trading on the Borsa Italiana AIM- MAC exchange, which focuses on emerging companies. Global Clean Energy Holdings, which trades on the OTB Bulletin Board, has been added after acquiring Sustainable Oils in March.
Eni, Neste Oil and Total were added as their ventures in renewable fuels — in particular, as Neste has become the global leadre in renewable diesel production, Total has taken over the commercialization of the Amyris technology and Eni has switched over a refinery to renewable production.
Metabolix (MBLX), BASF, and Eni were added as the Index broadens its focus to include “replacing the whole barrel of oil” and, in particular, chemical companies that have focused in on the development of renewable chemicals and biobased materials.
“Eight outstanding companies that round out the picture for investors,” noted Biofuels Digest editor Jim Lane, “giving them a clearer sense of the health of the overall sector for the public stock picker, and those who monitor the sector via the Index.”
Shares in the Index have also been reweighted for the first time since 2012.
