Hi Guys!
For those that are looking to exchange CDN for US dollars, here is what I do to save money. I buy a stock that is listed on dual exchanges in Canadian funds. I sell it on a US exchange in US dollars, and usually make a small gain on the trade itself, but the revenue from the sale is converted to US dollars at the market rate and not the bank rate, so I save about 3% on the transaction fee.
I like to use SU and TLM, two oil stocks, to make my trades, but there are quite a few stocks to choose from including some mining companies. I trade through BMO and its wise to check the policy of the brokerage house you use first, but there is a good idea if it helps...
cheers!
