I do not wonder so much as understand - based on human nature. That nature is that we are lethargic and often do not want to acknowledge the facts even when they stare us in the face.
Propaganda; be it from politicals like Nazis and Communists, controlled media (commercials) from Capitalists or the bent of extreme Religious (terrorists), they bend the populace to their will and we take it like lambs. As long as we are complacent they exist and too often win.
