Sketch, I agree with you completely. 75% of BC's lumber is exported too the US and with the housing situation down there unravelling and picking up speed, more forestry jobs will be lost adding to the growing problem the industry already faces.
There has been countless sawmill closures throughout BC which has directly effected the logging machinery manufacturer that I worked for in Nanaimo.
On April 1st, and this is no April fools, our plant went into receivership putting over 200 employees at Madill on the street.
The casualties will only increase as the backbone (forestry) of many economies in cities across our province, take a direct hit.
I know what is transpiring currently is only presage of what we can expect in the not to distant future and the sad part of it all is that many amongst us are oblivious to the fallout. I can only hope that it's not as egregious as I sometimes imagine but something tells me we are in for a rough ride.
