You really have to feel for the residents of New Orleans as they are on the verge of being hammered with another major hurricane in the last 3 years.
The most recent forecast for hurricane Gustav shows it will most likely hit just to the west of New Orleans as a category 3 or 4 hurricane, meaning the city will receive the most violent side of the storm as opposed to 2005 when Katrina hit landfall to the east of New Orleans as a category 3 storm.
I can't imagine what it must have been like to go through Katrina and then receive botched support from the government, rebuild and have to face a potentially more severe storm three years later. CNN just reported that potential damage from Gustav could exceed $25 billion.
Having to sit through sustained winds of 130-150 mph and 13-18 ft storm surges twice in three years would be be enough to convince me to leave the city for good. Hopefully the government(s) have their act together this time to minimize the loss of life and help get aid to affected area.
