Message: gold miners to explode upwards

Below are a couple of clips re Canadian markets. Seems to me the US buck should be hitting new lows against the loonie instead of the other way around. Also, in case you didn't know it, the loonie is getting clobbered because of "concerns that a global recession will lead to diminished demand for Canadian materials." Really? That simple, huh? Maybe someone is slicing the baloney a little thick.

(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks plunged at the end of the session Monday, following the lead of U.S. markets, and reached a new four-year low. The S&P/TSX ended down 756.75 or 8.14% 8,537.34. Toronto's main index closed at its lowest level of the session.

Gold-related stocks continued to tumble, despite another modest rise for the precious metal. Mining stocks closed down 12.2%, the Gold Index dropped 11.1% and materials stocks declined 10.9%.

Teck Cominco (TCK.B.TO) dropped 17.2%, Inmet (IMN.TO) lost 9% and First Quantum (FM.TO) lost 6.5%. Gold prices turned higher on Monday and closed at $742.90, up $12.60 for the session. Earlier, the precious metal fell as low as $707.

The loonie slid versus its major counterparts on Monday in New York, hitting a fresh multi-year low against the greenback. Canada's resource-linked currency has been hammered of late amid concerns that a global recession will lead to diminished demand for Canadian materials
