Cockerel1's posts re states rights beginning to noticeably surface here in the US reminds me that I think it was the late Marshall McLuhan, my all-time favorite media guru (a former Canadian prof at McGill Univ., by the way) who first suggested quite some time ago that the US would eventually break up into 6 separate parts. Southeast states, northeast states, etc. He had it all tied in with the effects of the then coming digital age revolution, if I remember correctly.
Strangely enough, and for different reasons than McLuhan, a Russian analyst last November got a lot of press when he predicted the same thing, that the "US will collapse under the burden of its financial crisis and fracture into six parts." Must have read McLuhan, since he described the arrangement of the states the same way.
I wonder if we are beginning to see the opening salvos of an independence streak from the states as one by one they seem to be stirring here and there with their legislatures putting some serious independent stuff down in writing. I wonder if Washington is paying attention.
We live in interesting times, indeed.
