Also, seems to me that every time the IMF talks about selling gold, that that in itself keeps the price down. If they really wanted to sell gold, they should shut up about it and pressure the cartel to let the price more than double to where it should be anyway, inflation adjusted, and then try to sell some. Would get the same amount of dollars for selling less than half the gold. US might even go along with selling a little at a high price and then simply have the cartel take the price back down. They're pretty good at that maneuver.
Since the IMF keeps blabbing about it, it keeps the price down, imo, which is perhaps what their real agenda is anyway. Gives the cartel a little rest.
Just being cynical.
