Engineers versus lawyers

This weekend I read a very interesting article in "the Economist" under the title "There was a lawyer, an engineer and a politician"".

Did you know that 8 out of 9 of the members of the Chinese Politburo are engineers? Number 9 is a Lawyer.

Then look at the US. The most important members of Government (Obama, Biden, Clinton) are all lawyers. The article says that over half of America's senators practised law.

I think this says an awful lot about the development stage in which each of these countries is.
