Hey JC,
You might be happy to hear that silver is now being used extensively in clothing as a bactericide as well. It is being used in socks, undrewear, shirts, as well as being added to washing machines to eliminate bacteria. I read where the armed services are starting to use it quite extensively with troops clothing to prevent infections.
You are correct, do a search on silver usage and it is amazing how many uses there are now, and the list is still growing fast. An important point is that in very many applications, the amount of silver per product is very small and won't add much cost per unit even if the price of silver explodes. But when you add up all the minute applications, you will end up needing a lot of silver all together.
Such things as national defense and new super conductor transmission cables may need large amounts.
It might be time for someone to print an in depth list of silver usage applications once again, if anyone out there has a nice list they have saved.

Silver’s anti-bacterial powers have been tested and proven scientifically even though its power as a bactericide has been known for centuries. The ancient Phoenicians, for example, knew that water, wine or vinegar kept in silver vessels stayed fresh during long sea voyages.
Only recently, however, have scientists discovered how the white metal does its work. Quite simply, silver interrupts a bacteria cell’s ability to form chemical bonds essential to its survival.
