Though the threat of the drug cartel muscling in on the mining business in Mexico has been under the radar and perhaps inconsequential for awhile, it's a head shaker to read articles like this and especially to note the negative and concerned comment from Ramon Davila, COO of First Majestic, a fast-growing miner some of us here own.
That it's a Reuters piece gives it some credibility, imo, and could give pause to some fence sitting investors thinking about investing in (or out of) Mexican miners. Suspicious minds may look for a hidden agenda. In any event, this stuff is not very helpful to our Mexican juniors.
Don't know Mica Rosenberg, the author, other than she's apparently a Reuters correspondent in Mexico covering commodities there and in Central America. One of the editors of the piece is stated as Reuters' acting bureau chief in Mexico and Central America.
